Burton House
Burton, Texas
This 2000 square foot home was designed for two retirees as a second home on their Washington County ranch. The house is meant to be a rural escape for the couple, as well as an entertaining destination for their family and friends to visit.
The house is sited in a secluded area of the property in a small grove of large old Live Oak trees. The vernacular design echoes the historic farm houses of the area and utilizes local materials, including Eastern Cedar, and Austin Chalk limestone. Large wrap around porches to shade from the Texas heat while also connecting the house to the beautiful landscape. The porches also provide ample shade to the large windows that provide multiple views to the Live Oak Grove and the surrounding landscape.
